John 14:7

“If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Along with being a word of comfort and reassurance, this statement from Jesus is all about connecting him to the Father. It’s a Holy Trinity statement, in which the triangle of the Three-in-One is thread together. Father to Son, Son to Spirit, and Spirit back to the Father again, each of the three persons of God brings something important to the table. God the Son is a human Jesus in the flesh, showing up in our world to know us.  God the Father is our holy parent, giving birth to new life and creating new things. And God the Spirit is Jesus still here and alive today, living and breathing through the Church as one body. God shows us how to dwell in this world as one community, just as God dwells in divine community all along. A fancy theological name for this is perichoresis, which means, “the divine, interwoven dance of the Trinity.” Neat!

Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for showing up in our lives as God Made Flesh. Encourage us in the knowledge that you love us and dwell with us as Son, Father, and Spirit. Amen.
