Matthew 9:25-26
25 But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up. 26 And the report of this spread through all of that district.
Forget about the crowds for a moment; forget about the anxious and distraught parents hovering around their lifeless daughter. Just imagine being that little girl.
I would like to imagine that from her perspective she was having a wonderful dream. She maybe was aware that her body was lifeless, but she was experiencing a place where love radiated from everywhere. And there was one person whose eyes were so kind and full of love that they seemed to see right into the depths of her soul and loved her all the more. He reached out to take her hand, and when their hands touched, she was back in her own room, with her parents… but also with the man from her dream. He was right there holding her hand and he pulled her up.
That’s pure conjecture on my part, but I like to think that’s how it’s going to be for all of us when we take our last breath. Jesus, the embodiment of God’s love, will be right there to take our hand.
– Pr. Paul
Lord Jesus, you are the reason I do not fear death. In this life your love has never let me go, and I can trust that you never will… not even in death. Amen.
