Matthew 15:28 

“Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.’ And her daughter was healed from that moment. 

Jesus reframes great faithfulness as trusting in him, and in his new life and healing as the Messiah, rather than in her abilities. As the disciples and Jesus both bear witness: she is unclean, unworthy, and unwelcome into the kingdom of God. At least, that is how it used to be—before Jesus! Now, in the welcome of the Son of God, this daughter (and likewise, her daughter as well) are healed by their re-connection to God. And, in that, the woman finds new life and healing: in body, mind, and spirit. The kingdom has come near, and she has faithfully, boldly reached towards it.   

And, as always, Jesus is reaching right back.

Let us pray: Healing God, you restore us in ways that are entirely unexpected. Thank you for caring for our deliverance, both in this world and the next. We thank you for including us in your salvation. Amen.
