Matthew 22:1- 4
Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying: 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. 3 He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come. 4 Again he sent other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited: Look, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet.’
Remember from yesterday when I described the king’s banquet as the event of the century! Who wouldn’t want to be invited? Apparently, each of the guests who said they wouldn’t be coming. That made no sense at all. The king sent a second invitation describing how great it was going to be! There was going to be food galore! It was going to be a party that outclassed every party.
What’s the best wedding reception you ever attended? My extended family loves to dance, so the best weddings are the ones where the dance floor is never empty. We plan our whole year around going to a party like that.
Jesus described the kingdom of heaven as no less of a party. It’s a party where family is together and they have every reason to celebrate. God’s love has triumphed over our sin and death!
Every now and then we catch a glimpse of that party right here and now… whenever God’s love for us is made manifest in the lives of those around us. And it is beautiful! Heaven is going to be some party!

Lord of love, on hard days it’s tough to feel loved. Open my heart to see evidence that your love is still holding on to me. Amen.
