Mini-Campaign

$1 per day for the next year

Next time you come to Peace, you’re going to see some big changes!

The new Gathering Place is all but finished, and it is fantastic! It completes our PeaceNEXT project, which also included the new Gym and Music Hub.

What we accomplished together was no small feat. This has been a $8.4 million project, and we raised $2.3 million of that in cash up front — your generosity has been astounding!

We need YOU!

There is still a $6.1 million loan that we have to begin paying down and, quite frankly, we need YOU.

We’ve been receiving about two-thirds of what we need for the monthly mortgage. It’s going to be the little bit above & beyond, every month, that will make the difference! It doesn’t have to be a lot.

In fact, if every Peace household gave a $1 a day, or $30 a month, the monthly mortgage payment would be easy. $30 a month is the equivalent of an online streaming service…which you may not even be using!

Every gift on top of your current giving to the ongoing ministry is an investment in the new ministries that these new spaces will make possible. And you will have had a hand in making them all happen!

So, please take a moment to consider how much you would be able to invest in the future of ministry at Peace.

Phase 1A

Gym

Though designed as a multi-use space, which will benefit our existing daycare, after school program, and youth ministries, the ability to use this space as a gym is a game-changer for our ministry to the community. Gym space for youth sports on the west side of Sioux Falls is scarce. Recreational space within walking distance of our low-income neighbors is non-existent. The Peace Gym impacts a lot of folks in our community, becoming a new home for them right here at Peace!

Music Hub

The Music Hub is the new home for classrooms and rehearsal space. And in Phase 1A, these rooms were converted into a space that accommodates the growing number of people using their gifts and talents to enhance our Worship, faith education, creative, and music ministries.

Phase 1B

Expanded Gathering Place

Nestled between the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall, the new Gathering Place will create a warm and welcoming environment for the care of those who come through our doors. From gathering after worship and special events to sharing stories after a funeral, the Gathering Place will transform the ways we connect with one another.

Temporary walls are up around the area during the remodel to keep the noise and dust to a minimum. This expansion is on track to be completed in Spring 2024!

FAQs

Why the change?

It's no surprise that costs have been rising recently, and cost is the biggest driver. The estimated change between the original estimate in 2019 and updated estimate in 2022 was close to $2 million. Part of that estimate included “price escalation”, the increase in cost from that point to the time that bids are received, as well as “contingencies”, the unforeseen costs. For example, our construction project will mean moving and upgrading the electrical transformer servicing the whole building. That expense wasn’t known at the beginning. As the project moves forward, we hope to a) be moving faster than the estimated cost of increases and b) realize savings in the contingencies. These unknowns are limiting our ability to make long-term commitments. As PeaceNEXT continues, we’ll have a better idea how to best steward our gifts and ministry.

Why now? Will construction costs go up or down?

Well, prices probably won’t come down too much, although we keep hoping. At this point we are still hedging against price increases. In addition, moving forward in the way we have done allowed Peace to benefit from historically low interest rates. This saves us money now and over the course of the loan.

Why this order?

The Design Team worked through a number of options, and this order for the project was selected because it made the best use of resources available and prepared for future phases. There is incredible excitement in both the Family Activity Center and the renovated Gathering Area. But, we know that the Music Hub needs to be COMPLETED before we can begin renovations on the Gathering Area. This is because we rely on the music room and classrooms year-round. We couldn’t remove those and continue with ministry like we do now. There are also cost savings in doing all the new construction at once. These savings come from the equipment needed. It costs less to have things delivered once and coordinate between the two parts of the project instead of renting it twice. We also were able to move quicker in architectural design with new spaces, rather than remodeled spaces with more unknowns.

When will we get to Phase 1B and the Gathering Area?

As soon as we are able. The hope is to both save costs in Phase 1A and continue to raise support so that we can move into Phase 1B soon after the completion of Phase 1A. It’s impossible to predict all of those variables now.
