John 14:1

“[Jesus said to the disciples:] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”

This is a piece of scripture that we often use when our own hearts are troubled. We hear it at funerals, in services of reflection and prayer, during Blue Christmas, and throughout the long, reflective seasons of Lent and Advent. When our hearts are troubled, it is good to know that our God cares. When we are hurting, God does not dismiss our feelings or tell us to ignore it; instead, God comforts us with a sense of compassion, and asks us to dwell in the trust of God’s presence with us, so that we might dwell together with God in all things.

– Pr. Alex

Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for being our comfort. Help our troubled hearts to rest in your trustworthy care. Amen.
