Acts 2:14-17

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Fellow Jews and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15 Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. 16 No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 17 ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.

Peter was addressing both groups: those who wanted to know what it meant, and those who thought the disciples were drunk. He spelled it out for them. This was Scripture coming alive before their very eyes!

What we celebrate on the day of Pentecost is the same event we celebrate at every Baptism—receiving the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit living within you is part of your baptismal gift. The Holy Spirit is like an internal GPS. Regardless of what road you’re on or wrong turn you make, the Holy Spirit knows how to “recalculate” and get you back to the place with Jesus. The Holy Spirit is also our mental/emotional “health sense” that shows us the things we need to work on to get unstuck. And our baptism gives us access to this incredible gift!

– Pr. Paul

Holy Spirit, help me quiet my voice and my never asking, and instead ask you what you would like me to dwell on today and to do. Amen.
