Matthew 28:16
"Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.”
The significance of God’s blessing and sending from the location of a mountaintop is worth noticing. In the Old Testament, especially in prophetic call narratives, God speaks from the vantage point of a mountain. But it’s not because God can only speak to us from the highest places: it’s because God wants to journey with us in the lowest places. Rather than stay up high and separate (in heaven or on a mountain), God enters into the world, down the hills, through the valleys, along the roadside with us. The glamor of a fancy destination fades, but the presence of God always remains. This seems to set us up well for the ministry into which we are called: one that is not always easy or pretty, but one that is deep, meaningful, and worthwhile, all serving the kingdom of God.

Let us pray: God, you travel with us from the highest highs to the lowest lows. Be with us when we feel alone, and give us guidance when we are lost, confused, or discouraged.
