PSALM 91 – a prayer for protection

One of my favorite hymns, “On Eagle’s Wings,” is inspired by this Psalm. There are images of God’s protection throughout scripture, but I especially love the ones where God soars on wings like eagles, gathers us close in nesting wings, and holds us close to the soft, beating heart of love. Thank goodness for God’s nurturing care, which gives us warmth in the midst of the coldness we too often face in this world.

– Pr. Alex

Let us pray: God, where hearts are fearful and constricted, grand courage and hope. Where anxiety is infectious and widening, grant peace and reassurance. Where impossibilities close every door an window, grand imagination and resistance. Where distrust twists our thinking, grant healing and illumination. Where spirits are daunted and weakened, grant soaring wings and strengthened dreams. All these things we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. (ELW p.76)
