John 14:5-6
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Do you remember our study and sermon series called Practicing The Way? Each fall, we will study a different part of this discipleship series, and what it means to be with Jesus, to be like Jesus, and to do as Jesus did. When we do these things, we are practicing The Way. Did you know that the first members of the early Christian church did not call themselves Christians, but called themselves “followers of the Way?” As Lutherans, we don’t believe anyone can follow the Way perfectly, nor do we believe that practicing the Way saves us (only Jesus does both!) However, we do believe that walking in the ways of Jesus will give us little glimpses into of the kingdom of God, showing us what new life and resurrection looks like, right here and now in this world.

Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for teaching us how to walk in your ways of new life. Help us find joy and hopefulness in experiencing your kingdom come near. Amen.
