John 14:3
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.”
Have you ever prepared your home for a visitor or guest? What were the kinds of things that you did to help them feel welcome? Hospitality is a way to show care and compassion. In Jesus’ day and age, it was also a way to share one’s honor and faith. Those who trusted and followed in the covenant of God went out of their way to welcome both friend and stranger, preparing the comforts of food, shelter, water and rest. When Jesus tells his disciples that he is going ahead to prepare a place for them, he is making a statement about his faith, and about how that faith is offered up for those he loves. What a welcoming God we have!

Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for welcoming us as guests into your home. Help us to show one another the same kind of generous welcome whenever possible. Amen.
