Matthew 28:19-20
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.”
In a world marked by imperialism and conflict, The Way of Jesus began to show a new, life-giving alternative. To be and share in discipleship was to commit to a covenant of living that valued Jesus’s teaching: compassionate power, healing mercy, inclusive community, words that restore life, dignity, and hope in the unfolding kingdom of God. Jesus commissioned his disciples so that they would go out and be a living example, welcoming everyone along the way (indeed, across all places, cultures and nations!) that we might become one vibrant, united, diversified, blessed, alive and serving, Body of Christ.

Let us pray: God, you teach us how to live in abundant life. Thank you for sending Jesus to us, so that we might know your loving goodness. Help us to practice his way, even when it is countercultural, especially when it feels difficult due to our many differences. Amen.
