Matthew 11:25-27 

“At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants, yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” 

In this moment of prayer, Jesus reveals his identity as the Son of God, as well as his deep connection to God as his Parent. The Holy Trinity is beyond our human comprehension, but Jesus gives us a glimpse into what that divine relationship might look like in this prayer. As Jesus shows us here, the relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one that speaks and listens, acts and waits, responds and holds close, gives and receives. And when we dwell together in loving Christian community, we model ourselves after that divine, interwoven dance of love.

Let us pray:  God of community, we pray that you bless us with loving community. When we try to do things by ourselves, remind us that we have been made in your image: many parts of one body, many gifts of one kingdom. Unite us to proclaim your gospel. Amen.
